MAKING THE SUPER SCULPTING II EXERCISE DVD, PART TWO

describe the imageMAKING THE SUPER SCULPTING II EXERCISE DVD, PART TWO

Last week I told you what I enjoyed most, and what was hardest, about making the new Bar Method “Super Sculpting II” DVD. This week my three intrepid fellow “Super Sculpting II” performers, Sharon, Kiesha and Juan, weigh in about their toughest, funniest and most fun moments during the shoot:

What did you find most difficult about performing in the Super Sculpting II DVD shoot?

describe the imageKiesha: Maintaining perfect form throughout the shoot. You don't realize when you take class how many times you come out of form, simply by tucking your hair behind your ear, scratching your nose, or adjusting your stance.

Juan: Honestly, finding pants. It’s surprising how few examples of yoga clothing actually exist for men.

Sharon: Finding a blue tank top that [Burr] liked!

What did you find most fun?

Juan: The fact that we were going to be watched really brought out a drive in me that I didn’t know was there…at least not to that degree.

Sharon: Shopping for blue tank tops.

What was the funniest moment?

Kiesha: Watching Sharon unload her suitcase of a dozen different blue tops.

describe the imageJuan: My favorite line ever said by Burr during the curl portion of the video: ‘I’ve never heard anyone say their abs were so sore they couldn’t eat.’

What do you think of the workout?

Kiesha: I LOVE it. It’s intense, but within reach for someone to work up to. The choreography is really fun.

Sharon: It was awesome. I still might be a little sore.Hairline SeparatorNote to my readers:

Starting this month, I will be posting my blog on the first Tuesday of every month rather than weekly. This change in schedule has become necessary to an increasing number of new Bar Method ventures that are requiring my time. Among what’s happening are upcoming studios in Boston, Washington, DC, Austin and Houston plus several future Bar Method media projects, the details of which are yet to be made public.

Thank you for your support during this change.

I am curious to know why so many of the abdominal exercises at the bar method are in such a shortened range of motion - could someone please give me the reasoning behind this? Thanks!

The Bar Method employs a combination both large and small ranges of motion during its abdominal exercises. The reason is that each type of contraction comes with benefits. Full range curls, which the Bar Method includes in several variations such as "clam" and "curl with the ball behind the back" makes use of eccentric contractions that tone and flatten the abdomen, while the smaller, isometric curls and holds it gives in other variations such as "high curl" and "kickstand curl" build stamina and strength. When used in combination, holds, isometric curls and full range curls gently massage and lubricate the spinal discs without over-stretching the back.

I want to say how the Burr Method has been positive for my health .

I have been diagnosed stage 4 breast cancer and I must say of all exersice's I have tried this is the best one for me. My body hurts alot less from my monthly treatments that I get. I just wanted to express my apprecation on what a great deal it means to me to be able to do this and not just see results but feel how strong it is making me feel as time goes on. Thank you Frances

a friend just told me about the Barr Method. I teach fitness and would like to know the best place to take a class in NYC. Is there a certification for this?

@Diana- Thank you for your interest in The Bar Method! The Bar Method only certifies teachers who are employed in an existing Bar Method studio or those who are becoming a Bar Method franchise owner. Unfortunately we do not certify anyone to teach our classes outside of a Bar Method studio.
