THE 2010 BAR METHOD CONVENTION AND THE RELEASE OF THE NEW EXERCISE DVDs

Last Friday and Saturday we held our third annual Bar Method franchisee convention at our San Francisco Marina studio. Forty-seven studio owners attended from our 35 Bar Method studios in the U.S. and Canada. In 2011, the number of Bar Method studios will reach around 50. The more of them there are, the more noticeable it becomes that the Bar Method studio owners tend to be cut out of the same cloth. All of them are superb teachers, strong leaders and as one studio owner likes to put it “have drunk the cool aid” and are happily addicted to the Bar Method’s humanistic approach to exercise. In many cases they are close friends with each other.

Exercise classEvery year I like to watch the explosion of excitement when franchisees first walk though the door of our studio and see their friends or meet new fellow studio owners for the first time. Though it was clear to everyone that we’ve grown since last year, the buzz at this convention wasn’t about how big we’re become. People were more interested in another change that’s been taking place. Since last spring, we’ve been working to set up a new organizational framework that will enable the Bar Method to maintain the quality of its classes, and even increase that quality, as it adds new studios. Getting organized might not seem like a particularly electrifying news item, but to me it’s exciting because I know that it will mean you can take a great class in Chicago, then go in Miami and take a class there that will be just a great. Your teachers will have different personalities and styles, but the Bar Method technique will be consistent wherever you go. The exercises will be involving, interesting, fast moving, clearly presented. The music will be dynamic and inspiring, and you will wake up the next day with a stronger, leaner feeling in your muscles.

The driving force behind the idea to build adescribe the image
more effective organizational framework is our dynamic new COO Michael Doud who joined our company last spring. Michael has three decades of experience building successful companies and running operational systems for large corporations. He left his management position at a large corporation to join the Bar Method because he believes in it. He takes three classes a week (all at 6 am), works a 12-hour corporate-style day, and has given wings to the Bar Method’s idea that enhancing its capacity to change bodies and lives for the better, not increasing its size, is ultimately the most satisfying goal we can aim for.

To those of you who have been asking about our new DVDs, “The Bar Method Beginner’s Workout,” “The Bar Method Dancer’s Body,” and “The Bar Method Pregnancy Workout,” they are now available! If you don’t see them on the home page, simply refresh your browser. Our intention in creating these DVDs was to make them as closely as possible resemble the feel, spirit and effectiveness of our studio classes, and I think we succeeded. All three classes are fun and fast-moving and include a bonus section taught by me on how to do the basic exercises in good form. Enjoy!

Was up early this morning doing my BM DVD and had a thought that possibly the new DVD's would be posted and they were. Ordered them before your email came out announcing they were available. Love my DVD's and the Soho studio in NYC. Cannot wait for my new DVD's to arrive. Thank you Burr for making such a signifcant difference in the way I thought about exercise and the way in which the BM has made me feel and look!

Oh my goodness I have been waiting for this and already ordered the new dancer's body tape. At 62, and already working out with the other tapes for 6 months, these workouts are what I will depend on for life. Flexibility, strength and a healthy body. Thanks Burr! Norma Jean

Very excited about the new dvds.

My suggestion is to have an avenue
for those of us who do not use
credit cards to purchase with a
money order. My attempts to ask
the studios were met with responses
that many are not carrying the dvds.

Previously, Bar Method dvds were
available at select online stores.
Now with the dvds only available
at Bar method store online, is there an way for us to purchase the
new dvds with a money order?

Would love to add the new dvds
to my collection...

Yay! I have the two Bar Method DVD's that are available on your site. But, I'm going to add the Dancer Body one to my routine as well. I just started the Bar Method workouts a couple of weeks ago and really love them. It would be great if you could open a studio in the south suburbs of Chicago.

Hi, this is Cousin Lisa from New Mexico.

Just ordered the new Dancers Body DVD and can't wait for it to arrive. After having a 3rd child at the age of 43, I thought my body was ruined forever (and I did exercise) but after using your DVDs my body is transformed. Back pain gone, abs strong again, legs never looked so good. Thank you for improving my health and my life.

Burr commented that she too was intructing a fourth new release and I wondered when that would come out. I believe it is an advanced workout. I like how she gets you in the right position. I'm waiting for reviews on the new videos. As I have all four dvds. My husband even does it with for his knees. Love it!

Burr,
Your DVDs & method have done so much for my physical & mental being. I find the BM to be intense enough to break a sweat but also mildly meditative. Even when my legs are on fire I just get into "the zone". I bought the Dancers Body DVD & am so excited to try it. Do any of your DVDs include flat back? Can it be done at home?

I have Bar Method's Change Your Body, Accelerated Workout, and now Dancer's Body dvds. What is the best way to rotate the dvds to achieve optimal results in terms of toning and some weightloss. I would also like to say that Bar Method is absolutely the best when it comes to form pointers, flexibility, and overall total body workout without the stress. I cannot wait until next year when Super Sculpting I and II will be released!

I accidentally ordered the beginner video when I had meant to get the advanced...and I'm so glad I did! The beginner is still so effective!
I've posted a review on my blog if anyone is interested:

I am 14 weeks pregnant and just received both the pregnancy DVD and the Dancer's Body DVD. They are both excellent. The pregnancy DVD is great for informing you about all the modifications you should be doing. And the Dancer's Body is an excellent advanced workout. Thanks for the great DVDs. Looking forward to more!

I just finished the Dancer's Body dvd for the first time and I am so impressed with all aspects of it. I live in Charleston, SC,where sadly there is no Bar Method studio. I have attended a few classes in the NY area and have loved them, and this dvd had me shaking as if I was in a real class. The instruction is wonderful and the workout couldn't be better. Thank you!

Just did the Dancers Body DVD for the first time--guess I wasn't as strong as I thought I was--OW! Intense! Very different instructor style will take some getting used to.

I LOVE, love these tapes and would comment on the new dancers body but have been disappointed with the very long time it takes to get them, which is now around 2 weeks out from my order. Shows the success of these tapes OR ....? Hurry!

I love the Dancer's Body DVD! I was so excited to receive it! It is tough and I feel that good familiar burn that only Bar Method gives. Today I'm a bit sore but that tells me it was a very effective workout. Nothing gives me the legs I want but Bar Method. It actually let's you be the architect of your own body shape! I'm so thankful for this program!

When are the video clips coming? A lot of people are waiting for them! I have taken a couple of classes and none of the other DVDS are as challenging. I want to make sure Dancer's Body is as challenging as a live class before I order.
What is the expected wait time once an order is placed?

Hi Lisa,
Burr asked me to tell you,

"I'm working on the DVD clips at this moment. They'll probably be on our site next week. Yes, Dancer's Body is really really challenging. I think you'll be blown away.

Our least expensive shipping takes 2 - 9 days for the DVD to get to you. We also say on our website that processing takes 3 - 7 days but right now it's taking 1 - 2 days for us to process the orders.

We're working on implementing a faster shipping system right now."

The Dancer's Body DVD is AMAZING! I just did it for the first time, and it's as tough as an actual class.

I FINALLY got my Dancer's Body tape and thought I would add this to the comments list. I agree that it sure is a different style and hope I will eventually "get into it." I would also ask this question. As a former weight lifter and now believer in these tapes for life long health my question is this. Are the instructors on the tapes using some other free weight training as they are more toned and muscular than the teachers that are in back of them on the tapes (except the gentleman) which makes me wonder if free weight training should still be incorporated especially for over 50. I love, love, love, Dancer's Body and I can't get enough of it. Will you be sharing any more details soon about the new Super Sculpting I and II workouts? Like why Burr decided to do two instead of one, etc. I am so excited to know the release date as well... I am saving my Christmas money to buy these I can't wait!!!

Happy Holidays!!

Thanks,
